The StepArray range of column loudspeakers have been designed to equip large rooms in which sound reverberates. Mounted vertically, these columns, whose vertical directivity is digitally controlled, provide excellent reproduction and intelligibility of voice and music.
In order to meet all situations, options are available such as the AGC option to adjust the sound level depending on the ambient noise, and the SUB option which pairs a subwoofer to the column to ensure optimum reproduction of music. There is also the COL option to choose the right color for your system.
To choose the StepArray column tailored to your needs, ask yourself:
- Is the room flat or tilted ? An index “P” behind the column name indicates a flat horizontal audience area, an “S”, a tilted audience area.
- What range is required ? The range is the distance for which the average noise level on the octave 500Hz, 1kHz and 2kHz remains within ±3dB or ±5dB.
SAdrive
The SAdrive software is used to calibrate the system. It is installed on a PC connected to the DSP processor UT26. The UT26 processor calculates the signals to be sent on each channel (group of loudspeakers) of the column via the amplifier MPA6150. Once the system is calibrated and tuned, the PC can be disconnected, the parameters having been saved in the processor. It is possible to modify them by re-connecting the PC.

SAdrive is the software tool for calibrating, tuning and controlling an installation :
- Directivity setting, based on the shape of the enclosed space
- Sound equalisation per column or per group of columns
- Priority settings for sound signal inputs
- Setting of delays of one column with respect to other columns
- Adding a subwoofer
- Feedback killer algorithm
- Automatic Gain Control.
Directivity is set simply by specifying the height of the bottom of the column with respect to the listening plane (ears = 0), and the min and max focal distances of the zone. The Spatial Balance slider allows boosting the SPL in a given part of the zone, e.g. to compensate the effect of the acoustics of the enclosed space. The resulting sound level (SPL) on the listening plane is displayed as a colour graph.

Security Sound System (SSS)
When the PA system also ensures the diffusion of emergency / evacuation messages, the system has to comply with the EN60849 standard (acoustic quality in public places) which specifies a minimum level of intelligibility, but also imposes a permanent surveillance of the proper working order of the system. This is called a Security Sound System (SSS). StepArray complies in terms of intelligibility and becomes surveillance compliant by adding the surveillance module SSS.

Automatic Gain Control (AGC)
AGC allows automatic adjustment of the level of diffusion according to the sound level captured by the microphone when no message is played. Using this function, the sound level perceived by listeners may be adjusted for optimal comfort : moderate level when the background noise is low, higher level when the background noise is high in order to provide good intelligibility.

For example:
- If the background noise is 75 dBSPL and the AGC enters in action (Threshold) at 65 dBSPL, then the AGC gain will be -2 dB (i.e. -12 + (75-65)),
- If the background noise is 80 dBSPL, and the AGC enters in action (Threshold) at 65 dBSPL, then the AGC gain will be 0 dB (i.e. MIN(-12 + (80-65) ; 0)).
Sub Woofer (SUB)
In cases where the StepArray system diffuses music, the sound fidelity will be better (roundness and fullness) if a sub woofer and its associated amplifier is added. The sub will be managed by the UT26 processor fitted with the SUB option. This option is not necessary for installations aimed at vocal diffusion since the human voice hardly has component frequencies in the bass range below 150Hz.
Color (COL)
For a perfect integration of your installation, choose an appropriate color. The standard colors are white (RAL 9016), gray (RAL 9006) and black (RAL 9005). For a particular color, you just have to specify the RAL color code.
